There is a difference between people who only dream about what they would like to accomplish and people who actually put forth the effort and make those dreams become reality. Have you ever heard of John C Maxwell? He is a writer and teacher of effective success principles.
Some of his most impactful teaching concerns the Rule of 5, which is what we are going to talk about in this article. John shares an analogy that I think you will find helpful. Let's imagine that in your backyard there is a tree that has to come down. You go into the shed and grab the ax, sharpening it up, ready to do the work at hand.
You walk up to that tree and take just 5 swings at it, then stop. The next day you go back out to that tree and take just 5 more swings, then stop. The following day you go back out and take 5 more swings at that tree, then stop.
So what do you think would happen if you did this day after day after day? If you applied discipline and were very consistent with your actions-what would be the result? The result is that the tree would eventually fall down. A large tree may take longer to fall down that a small tree, but eventually it absolutely will come down.
The question is- what is your "fitness" tree? What is your goal that you want to master when it comes to your fitness, happiness and health? It doesn't matter if your tree is 10lbs or 100lbs, running a 5k or marathon, it will fall if you take the right action.
Those right actions are the rule of five. Every day you need to stretch out your body, eat healthy food, drink eighty ounces of water, spend thirty minutes exercising and sleep for at least seven to eight hours. If you practice these actions, you will be on your way to success.
